I see several signs here. What do they mean?

Was out yesterday hunting for arrowheads and stumbled upon this rock. It appears to me to have several crosses along with a curved symbol carved into it. This rock is roughly 24" x 24" and is at the bottom of a large washout. I'm not sure if this is its original location because of the position in the washout. The area was a hotbed of indian activity and we found many points within a few hundred yards of this marker.

Is this marker worth pursuing? I have pretty much unlimited access to this place.

welcome to tnet and thanks for posting your pic here..
interesting find...intriquing that the letter F seems to be
carved here. although the long part of the F seems to split
at the bottom in a kind of trident...
not sure what the marks to the left might be..a very vague
bird like shape, kinda. maybe carefully chalking the image
might reveal more information...also scout the area upstream and look
for bigger boulder or outcropping with any marks or signs chiseled on
them..to early to tell what you might have there...also you might
photo this rock with a low angle light source and see what shadows
might appear, one easy way is to set it in the sun as the morning
rays fall over the rock from the low angle of sunrise, ect..
looking forward to see what develops

Ill try to get out there again this week. The biggest problem with chalking it is I'm afraid someone might see it. It is within 10 foot of a low water crossing on a pasture road. I'll see if I can get one and then wash the rock off.

Also in the picture, at the top left there is a black horizontal line. This is a shadow off some grass. Its not any marking or anything.

I was thinking that the long crooked line to the left of the cross could be the contour of the creek. Of course the creek has changed throughout the years but it does follow a similar path. I just cannot read the symbols well enough to go onto the next marker.

You don't have to chalk it. You can try spraying with shaving cream and lightly wiping off, or cover with baby powder and brush with a large paint brush. I have just used crushed up leaves and my hand. None of these methods leave for much for someone else to see.
