    Hi Jozzee.

I see these all the time. Your picture was too small, but here I call them God Heads. They usually mark a area for ceremony. Look for a campsite and see if you can find and stone tools left behind. There may be some small caves for burial also. Your head should be looking south towards mexico city. I wont start a argument on who put it there, but most likely its is very old.

Good luck. And yes some fool had a lot of time on his hands, and was crazy to do this.

Hey, jozee, There are large carvings found that may or may not have anything to do with treasures. There were folks who walked this continent waaaaay before the Spanish figured out what a "wheel" was and I think that those people put up some giant carvings for the same reason they built the Sphinx. They were monuments to their own race's accomplishments. But, as Casca wrote, to start that discussion HERE would not be productive. There are specific threads that deal more with the Ancients and how the Spanish "modified" some of their carvings to fit their ( the Spanish's) own needs.

These photos you've posted are truly interesting. I sure as heck wouldn't want to be the guy who drew the "short straw" on THOSE jobs.

If the faces on this hillside are Spanish or if the Spanish used them...
You will have to go up there and take a look.

If Spanish the face will look to the trail that will guide you home.
That trail will be visible when viewing from the position of the face.

If ancient, look for smaller signs around the monument,
see if they don't lead you in another direction.
The Spanish used ancient monument as landmarks quite often,
and would place their own marks on the stones around these monuments.

I like the huge hoot owl on the other mountain better . . .

Use a photoeditor that allows layers. Duplicate the base layer twice and use "screen" as the method . . . and a great big hoot owl appears on the left side of the photo, along with some other faces.

I noticed a "No Trespassing" sign. So no passing in 3's ok? The face looks Mayan. I hope you are able to post more.
