Morning star had some mines back in the early 1900's. And there are stories of the James gang hiding out in this area. There are even a family of James living in morning star know several of them had one of them visit with me today. I can't relate any stories from the morning star area other than you need to look at the buffalo river in that area there's supposed to be cave there. Or it's a huge over hang they visited.

I have no memory of ever being near any place called Morning Star, but I have lived near the buffalo river and remember hearing stories about Jessie James.
I always thought my big brother and I would find a treasure laying under a rock someday. Doesn't take long to give up on a notion like that when you flip a rock over and find a copperhead.

Morning star is about 7-8 miles north east of Marshall. It's just a spot if you blink while drive trough you'll miss it.

Spanish & KGC in the ozark mountains.

I lived in that area.... From Russellville to Harrison, when I was a kid.
Then lived in Texas( where I was born), then moved back to Arkansas in 1972.
For the most part, I've been in Madison county for 44 years. Sometimes I really miss Texas.
I have, scattered, memories of all of the places that I have lived, but fewer today than yesterday and I will have fewer tomorrow...

Hey guys. Got your cameras ready?

Thursday is fall equinox and it's time to photograph your sun and shadow signs.

Take lots of pics... And from different distances. You never know what the camera will find that you can't see in that moment in time.

Hope it's sunny around noonish.

Happy clicking.

I did some picture taking this weekend and decided that the site I am working is better for sun and shadow signs during the summer solstice when the sun is at its highest point in the sky for the year.

All that I've got is under the conapy of trees now. Have to wait on the leaves to fall off for shadow signs. I do have one shadow sign that I found a few years back. It's an 8 on its side.

My grandpa built a stone cellar with rocks like that. Cut perfect. Even a old stone fort on top of the mountain that's been there since my great grandma was a little girl and she is 96

Orangeman, I don't think that is Native American bent because if the "way" it is growing back into the ground. Some trail trees do grow back into the ground, but in a different manner (in my experience). The knob on the back, however, makes it look like a warning tree.

So, what things would have been in the direction of the knob on the hip of the tree 200 years ago? Perhaps a fort or white settlement? Quicksand? Pit?

If this was in an area where there were none of the above, you probably have a treasure tree.

I actually had a tape of an old Blackfoot Indian describing creating a warning tree. After cleaning it up as best I could, I shared it with the Mountain Stewards but most of their links are missing or messed up now. Don's apparently too busy trying to sell his book on the trees.

You can still listen to it though by going HERE on my server. You'll have to download it, but it's an MP3 and less than 2 megs.

The Indian's name was "Hannibal Pete" and he was speaking with Laura Hubler. She actually dealt with the National Forrest Service in protecting some of the trees on National Forest Service land throughout the Southeastern U.S. back in the late 1960's - early 1980's.

There's non of that any where here it's all rocks and mountains. No whites in here till around 1840ish. This area was part of the Cherokee reservation at one time in history. I'm new to the tree markers and just going back to the places I remember when I was a kid and teenager hunting and finding them again.
