I have seen these stones in many places in the area
of SE Oklahoma where I live, they are often mistaken for
carvings made by man, but the explanation I got was, they
are natural (concretions), where the softer sandstone wore
away, leaving the harder, darker, patterns.
When i worked for the late Gloria Farley, many people
told us of these type stones, believing they were (treasure
markers).
But she also found many that were carved, including the
giant stone in Heavener, believed carved by nordic peoples,
around 1100 AD, plus many (turkey tracks) & others.

I loved this post ! But I will never believe that man did not have a hand in creating these designs :) Ancient men of course ;D

It is something to ponder, but Mother Nature does
some strange things that we may never have answers
for.

Those are really neat. I'd love to use them around my gardens. Thanks for sharing Fossis.

Thanks, I carry all I can home, but I have
seen them so big a dumptruck would be needed,
one was about eight feet by four feet, & had squares
that you could have played checkers on, (big checkers).

What beautiful rocks! Could you tell me what area? Were they dug? Did you find them?

Thank you for sharing those beauties.

Still fascinated by spirals even...

Fossis................

I've always had a special appreciation for patterns in nature, which explains all the rocks and shells I have around here.

So if I drove down from Tinker and wandered around I might find one of these?

Can you show a pic of the other sides of a couple?

I've been revisiting my fossils--particularly the exteriors. I'm going to crack a few again to see if there is anything else in there.

Q

You would find some, if you looked in the right
areas, but I would suggest winter, after deer season is
over, on through until about March, (snakes are asleep), ;D
usually the pattern goes right through the rock.
Better pack a (hogleg), bears, mountain lions, & wild
hogs, (a buddy just had a close call with a hog) last year,
made a believer out of him. ;D.

I've heard hog stories! It is something I'd rather not experience. What would take one out?

Q

Probably a 38 & up in a hand gun,

Here's a pic of a Boar's head at the local country store,
anyone wanting to hunt here, I have a buddy who runs an
exotic hunting club, sheep, hogs, etc, contact me by PM.
(this one was killed in the local mountains, wild).

Good God in Heaven, don't show those to the UFO people. They'll be worshipping them.

Very intresting link kenb, While I worked for
Gloria Farley almost 20 years, we ran down leads on carved
stones in this area, & saw many of these designs.
She always dismissed these as "natural", they are all over
the country locally, in no particular order.
I am not qualified to give a definate answer to what they
are, like the famous humorist Will Rogers said, ( all I know
is what someone tells me, or what I read in the paper) ;D
If these were carved by ancient Phoenicans, they would
have had little time left for anything else.
(plus, the designs in them usually go all the way through).
