IF you are experienced in signs and symbols, then I am asking you for your opinion on what this rock is. I think it's a turtle, but those more experienced than myself may see something different.

Additionally, I think I see a number 7 on the side of the face. I circled it. You can only see this possible #7 from a certain spot. Please see what you think:

Thanks!

Looks to me like if you measure 189.5 feet in the direction of the head there will be another marker, on the top photo, waist high marker there should be another marker in the same direction indicated, Please get the direction. magnetic please

Thank you, Dsty!! I hope to get back over there this weekend. I am to take the direction off the tip of the turtle's nose, right? Also, what do you think the rock many mean? Just a directional marker?

Hmm, BB. I guess I am thinking that the entire rock constitutes a single turtle. How or where do you see 2 turtles, if I may ask?
I don't know if S has seen it or not. If so, he hasn't PM'd me or anything.

BB - I'll have to look at my full size pic again to check these areas closer. Your pic is not enlarging for me.
Thanks!

miboje, I would just take a compass reading TO verify that it is something worthwhile, as the party moved along it used / brought forward the carvings they had made, some they made in place, just as you would do , same difference, It is my belief that you have found a settlers league and to verify it use the 4 compass degrees, as far as I'm concerned there will be multitudes of those, other's will be trail markers and there will be different type trail's , I will bring something forward for you

Update - Dsty, whatever was there, at 189.5', has been covered up with about 10 feet of topsoil when the township enlarged a road gutter drain. It's disappointing to say the least.

The turtle is upside down.

Somehow the rock has been inverted. Flip it back over, 180 degrees exactly and then see which way it's looking and the exact direction.

GIB - Thanks for your reply. I don't think there is any way we are going to be able to move this rock. It looks like it would take a backhoe to do it.

miboje, its a trail and has the right compass degrees you can go the same direction and distance and find another at 189.5 feet. 189.5 feet is a cordell, they used 1/4 - 1/2 -3/4 of a cordell also plus or minus

Dsty - So how far could this trail continue, and what is at the end? What are the "right" compass degrees? It was something odd, like 161 degrees southeast.
Thanks!!

miboje, If the very tip of the head ( nose ) points 161 degrees then its not what I had figured it was, The settlers league was 2.5 miles ( 1 league ) but the 4 compass degrees were used, ) 360 -- 180 --- 90 --- 270, the surveyors laid out the land, the Spanish had a land run much like Oklahoma had except it was the entire U.S. in that the kinda like a lottery for the Spanish the Leagues were numbered.
