Chris, very odd carving. Makes me think of (partially) a human backbone. Since this is so odd, place it back exactly for future reference. The line thru the center probably represents the spinal cord ( direction if treasure related ).
Now, if you have a topo of the area see if you see or know of an area known as the backbone. A few miles from me is a place known as the Devils back bone.
Search around the immediate area to see if you can locate anything else that might indicate treasure.
