Isn't that friggin' weird? Other than tearing it apart to figure out what's going on (Which I would not suggest), I would suggest x-ray. Get in touch with local university and contact Geology Dept.

crack it like an Egg :icon_thumright:

Or drill into it.

I'd guess the one with the Bell sound, is Metal covered with Plaster, or Cement. Looks more like plaster to me though.

The Lower Tone, Maybe plastic Covered with the Same type of plaster.
And then Sizes are causing other Tones. Or maybe just thickness of the Coating.
or a hole in the one with the bell sound.

Really need context on what/where rock formation is. Man-made structure?

That is BIZARRE(weird, strange)! It sure sounds hollow to me...I would also advise investigating carefully and with the permission of the authorities under who’s control this is. PLEASE let us know when you find out what it is!

Hi-
Breaking or Drilling the stone will be a waste of Time...

The reason the Rock Ring Like a Bell -
Its because if you did a Spectrograft on the Elements of the Boulder you would find
That most Stones like this are HIGH in IRON
The Higher the Pitch the more Iron content it has
