Reading a rock

I'll bet someone has a better idea than this, but when I track at night, it helps to shine a light almost parallel to the ground, maximizing the shadows. In daylight, I would suggest just experimenting with the angle at which you view the rocks.

spray shaving cream on the rocks, cover with a large piece of aluminum foil,, and squeegie over the foil with a credit card.......this works real well on tombstones...........gldhntr
