D.B. Cooper finally Tracked Down ?

A woman claiming to be the niece of infamous skyjacker D.B. Cooper has spoken to ABC News in an exclusive interview about her role in the recently re-ignited 40-year-old cold case that has haunted the FBI for years.

Marla Cooper told ABC News that she has provided the FBI with a guitar strap and a Christmas photo of a man pictured with the same strap who she says is her uncle, Lynn Doyle Cooper.

After clarifying her childhood memories surrounding the incident and more recent conversations with her parents, she is now sure that her uncle is in fact the notorious man who hijacked and threatened to blow up a commercial plane flying to Seattle in 1971, then parachuted to the ground with $200,000 in hand.

“I’m certain he was my uncle, Lynn Doyle Cooper. Who we called L.D. Cooper,” she told ABC News.

What a story! Looks like instead of another death bed crackpot confession this has all the makings of solving the 40 year mystery. Only time will tell of course, but it makes for some intriguing true crime reading. I've been following the case for the last 20 years so this was really interesting news to me. Of particular interest to us treasure hunters is that the money was supposedly lost by this latest suspect Lynn Doyle Cooper during the jump.... This year the party in Ariel, WA celebrating D.B.'s feat may well be the most raucous yet, stay tuned.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but what was his "feat?" He was a criminal who probably paid the ultimate price for his crime. I don't see any "feat" here.

It's my understanding the name "D.B. Cooper" came from a suspect who was cleared.

If this criminal lived from the drop - in dress shoes and a business suit, dropped into the forest in the winter - why wasn't any of the money ever spent?

Anyone who wants to read a chilling novel about a roughly similar situation, pick up "A Simple Plan." They made it into a pretty good movie; it's a great book that will keep you up at night reading it!
