Doesn't really sound like a mystery at all, does it?

Story states most were probably found before the contest started. So not the detectorists' fault.

It also says the coins were not 300 years old so they are not treasure trove. Finders keepers.

Complex Laws. It should have been reported & the likelyhood is they would have got them all back. Its a bad reflect on the dishonesty in our hobby. That's why the few that are honest stand out. (no brainer) Honesty will always prevail.

Those that were trusted & went back for the 150 that were dug out were the real gems. They profited & were willing to share with the landowner.
