An Ashland, Oregon woman says she buried a safe containing $262,000 in gold Krugerrands in her backyard two years ago. But when she went to dig it up earlier this year, it was gone.
On March 15, the woman reported to police that the safe was missing, but since then police have exhausted all leads and the case is dormant, said Ashland police Sgt. Jim Alderman. Police will not release the victim's name, because of the high dollar amount involved.
The case was complicated by the woman's refusal to let anyone conduct an extensive search of her property.
"She refuses to have her backyard excavated or allow anyone to search with a metal detector," said Alderman.

Bull. She spent it. What a perfect way to explain away the fact that you blew a lot of money.

There was a story in the news a while back about some woman who reported to police that she was "hypnotized" into giving thousands of dollars to someone in a mall.

I wonder how much the coins and safe would weigh, and how did she get it to the hole? Who would even bury a safe, since the lock would probably rust, and never be able to open it again. If someone did get the safe, it would be the guy she hired to dig the holes, but then why would someone leave the other containers of krugerrand.
Maybe one of those stories that is so crazy, it could be true! Or maybe not!

The woman told police she began buying gold in 2006. She said when she returned to dig up the safe, she found other containers of money and precious metals that she had buried, but not the safe.

According to investigators, there was no evidence of fresh digging on the property. They theorize that if the safe were stolen it could have happened shortly after it was buried in 2010. The woman was able to provide police with receipts for the gold, proving that it was at one time in her possession.

My hunch the safe was buried & left alone from that point.

She buried "other containers" from that point on.

All of a sudden she decided to check on the safe.

Either looking a little too far to the North. East, South, or west of it,
or maybe not quite deep enough considering settlement of the safe & earth,
and Being a bit Senile, she decided to blame anyone but herself.

Hopefully when she dies, Someone is bright enough to detect & Excavate,
even If the safe is eventually found.

safe could be a Handheld Fire safe all the way up to a big Floor model.
you can get allot of Krugerrands, in a hand held fire safe,
maybe even $262,000 worth depening on how your adding

Sounds like a lie to me! Either she never had the money, she is trying to get insurance payoff, or she has a whole lot more buried back there.

If this is in your area, I'd remember that location and wait for circumstances to change.

If she was talking value and not face value, that would only be 14.5 troy pounds. That would be very little space needed. We are talking about something the size a few diving weights.

Yep odds are she's & they are going by her Receipts, & what she spent.
& Depending on where she Bought, she could have spent $2000, per oz or more

She may have bought the coins for barely anything back when we were first allowed to buy them.
I'd say they could fit in a few tubes, in a handheld easy to carry safe.

burying a safe is pure stupidity. unless you just stole it and needed to hide it temporarily.

My theory : She is John Wicks sister and that is why she has the gold coins buried in the back yard. Since she is a female and has poor recollection and sense of direction she was digging in the wrong spot. She wont let the police dig or use a metal detector cause they will find the bodies she has buried. You know the dude that dug the holes to begin with. Dead men tell no tales.

Case closed. She will remember later like all females.
