The five-year old boy found a treasure trove of jewelry in a pond while out walking with his parents. Cops think it came from a jewelry store heist in January.

A five-year-old boy has found a stash of jewelry worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The German youngster found the horde in a pond in a village close to the southern city of Nuremberg.

The treasure trove, which included rings, bracelets and necklaces, is said to be worth tens of thousands of dollars by police.

The boy was out walking with his parents when he made the discovery.

His father told the Donaukurier newspaper that, "at first we just thought it was wire or something like that. But then we saw there was a fine necklace and that there were a more in the the water."

Police believe the jewelry was stolen from a shop in January but do not know how it came to end up in the pond.
