The only thing better would have been to have a metal detector at that moment. Interesting story.

Not uncommon here in the Mississippi woods. I've seen a few ghost towns.
I actually walked several miles through the thick woods to the top of a small mountain
and on top was a cemetary with graves/tombstones dating to the 1700's. Creepy places!

That is soo great ! When I resided in NY state we found the old town that was on top of a mountain , It was the original location but changed to the valley after the rail road came up that way and made a station. There was a road up there that connected the old town to 2 other occupied towns , Great place to explore lots of foundations ect , pretty good digging

What a sad story, the people who lived there were forced to leave because the U.S. government said they couldn't live on land that was designated as a park.
