89-Year-Old Widow Receives Husband's Dog Tag Lost In World War II
A buried treasure that was lost for over 70 years made its way into the hands of its rightful owner, just days before her 90th birthday. Catherine Wallace, a widow from Indianapolis, thought her husband's WWII dog tag was lost forever. Holding the priceless piece of metal today, she says "it's a miracle."
James Wallace joined the United States Army in 1943 and served until 1946. In 1944, he and his troop landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, where he lost his dog tag. Fast-forward 70 years to this past summer, when 22-year-old Francois Blaizot found the tag in a farm field along Utah Beach while walking with his metal detector. From that point on, he made it his mission to return the piece of history back to Wallace's family.
