This article tells about a real treasure chest containing $90,000 (1915 value) in gold that was buried near Siam, Iowa in 1868. By my rough calculations, that would be approximately $5.5 million in bullion value alone. That's not counting the numismatic value of the treasure which would increase its worth by several times. This is a very interesting article.

They were pretty old when they got caught 47 years later.
Awesome story. The witness was 16 when she witness th robbery/murder

You're most welcome, Waterscoop. I've used the Chronicaling America website over the years but mostly only to check on a few topics. Since I had more spare time than usual the past few weeks, I've utilized it for a lot more treasure-related topics and I'm amazed at the enormous number of articles about treasures that have mostly been completely forgotten in the past 100 or so years.
