DENTS RUN - Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and local treasure hunters were digging in Elk County Tuesday.

The agencies were set up off Route 555 in the community of Dents Run in Benezette Township.
Public Affairs Specialist for the FBI Carrie Adamowski could only confirm that FBI agents were conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity.

Dennis and Kem Parada on site, owners of Finders Keepers( Finders Keepers is a lost treasure locate and recovery service).
In 2008, Finders Keepers told 6 News the gold in Dents Run is from the Civil War era.
Parada said Abraham Lincoln ordered a gold shipment to help pay union soldiers. He said the wagon left West Virginia with 50 pounds of gold, and came right through Elk County.
In 2012, Finders Keepers claimed they found the gold, but federal law prevented them from digging it up.
The FBI did not allow Finders Keepers to speak with 6 News Tuesday, but residents who live in the area said they believe officials are searching for the lost gold.

[h=1]THE HUNT FOR LOST CIVIL WAR GOLD[/h]
Although my novel – Last Stand At Bitter Creek – is a work of fiction, there is plenty of real history woven into the plot. One of the incidents involved a small detachment of Union solders that left Wheeling, West Virginia, in June 1863. escorting a shipment of gold bullion that allegedly went missing in the rugged and remote North-central region of Pennsylvania.
[h=2]SECRET CARGO OF GOLD[/h]Legend has it that Abraham Lincoln ordered the gold shipment to help pay Union soldiers. The cargo consisted of 26 gold bars, weighing 50 pounds each – worth between $1.5- and $2 million – and stored beneath the false bottom of the wagon, which was covered in hay to disguise it.
Depending on what account you read, this shipment was headed for either the state capital in Harrisburg, or to Washington DC. In order to avoid Confederate patrols, the unit was ordered to travel as far north as possible before turning south.
The detachment was under the command of a young lieutenant, and led by a civilian guide. But only the lieutenant knew of the gold.
[h=2]UNIT COMMANDER BATTLES FEVER[/h]Here’s where story gets murky. The lieutenant reportedly had battled a fever throughout the journey.
Before the detachment reached St. Mary’s, in Elk County, he suffered a seizure and revealed the purpose of the mission, as well as the contents of the wagon. After spending the night, the detachment left St. Mary’s, and headed for Driftwood. It was the last time the lieutenant or the eight soldiers were ever seen alive.
[h=2]GUIDE REVEALS STORY OF ATTACK[/h]According to one account, the civilian guide showed up at Lock Haven, 40 miles southeast of Driftwood, contending the unit was attacked and wiped out, and the cargo taken.
He didn’t identify the attackers.
The US Army, however, questioned the veracity of the story and hired, and hired the Pinkertons to investigate. Undercover detectives had no success in locating the missing cargo. Army officials hustled the guide out of the area and sent him to a western outpost, where he died.
[h=2]DEAD MULES AND SKELETONS[/h]A couple of years later, or so, several human skeletons were recovered from Dent’s Run, thought to be members of the detachment.
The gold, however, was no where to be found. But, no gold bars were ever found. Treasure hunters continue their quest to find the missing cargo, but to no avail so far.

First Question: How are you going to pay troops with gold bullion bars?
Second Question: President Abraham Lincoln never ordered any gold shipment? That is left up to the treasury department and paymasters.
Third Question: With this gold shipment being so important why was there not a whole Regiment of Soldiers to protect it? Secrecy is find but being stupid is not Abraham Lincoln.
Fourth Question: Why was a Lt. in charge? A gold shipment of this magnitude and importance would have had at least a Captain to guard the gold.
Sixth Question: Why is it the leader is the only one that knows and gets sick and before dying tells his men the secret? A deathbed confession.
Seventh Question: Why is they got attacked and all were killed but one man out of his mind? But yet he knows they all cancelled and hid the gold.

Nothing but a story someone sold to a magazine or newspaper for a couple of bucks.

Maybe...It’s believed President Abraham Lincoln ordered the high-stakes mission so the gold could be used to replenish the fund used for Army payrolls. The gold was supposedly headed for the Philadelphia Mint. However, we should know something very shortly either way.

Would the Correct title include "Union Gold". Or does Confederate sound better.?

FBI , Need's the $.

"Finders Keepers" ...Hmmm, I think such an operation would have a better title.

If the gold is found, Finder's Keepers will get one half of the monetary value of the gold. The FBI or the US Government will get all the gold. We will see. I am really surprised they even let him do a dig? But mostly the reason if it is in a cave they will only have to remove some of the dirt.

A thousand pounds of gold, covered in hay, guarded by 8 soldiers, plus driver and lieutenant, so that is ten men guarding a wagon full of hay? I dont see how that would attract much attention!! I guess all the men thought it a bit strange, that the hay was so heavy! What a story!

If the photo in the news article is actually of the dig site, it appears to be on or near private property as that is a house in the background. ???

I would like to know when is the FBI going to post what really happened? I think they owe us that much for the taxpayers money they spent.

A head nod can also be in disgust as well as being in the affirmative. So still no actual word. I sent an Email to the TV station. They start stories but not any of them are ever finished.

There was a robbery on the news down here of a safe with over $600,000 never did find out if the perpetrators were caught or if the safe and money was ever recovered? I hate incomplete news reports.

FBI with the criminals running that operation these days, the gold if found is now in hands of its new owner, whoever the FBI had watching, no doubt in my mind

When you believe that there is treasure on any type of government lands, hire an attorney to make deals or you be sorry. Just ask these treasure hunters.
