BERLIN (AP) – Hundreds of 1,000-year-old silver coins, rings, pearls and bracelets linked to the era of Danish King Harald Gormsson have been found on the eastern German island of Ruegen in the Baltic Sea.
A single silver coin was first found in January by two amateur archaeologists (with metal detectors), one of them a 13-year-old boy, in a field near the village of Schaprode. The state archaeology office then became involved and the entire treasure was uncovered by experts over the weekend, the Mecklenburg-West Pomerania state archaeology office said Monday.
....so , it was all brought to the surface - this month! That's treasure in the news...!

Have you ever noticed that when we detectorists find treasure for ourselves, archeologists call us "looters" and worse but when we find treasure and turn it over to them, suddenly we become "amateur archeologists"?

Right on, and any little bit of documentation that we might do, becomes "science" to The Powers That Be... :laughing7:
And, to us, we feel professional in what we do - research, research and more, to find the stuff we do find,
and bring it to the public's knowledge or view, to recover and touch history, to learn more........
"amateur archeologists"..? I guess...!
