The “grave goods” they recovered were mostly personal jewelry.
I have to wonder if these people will be buried somewhere else and if their belongings will be buried with them?

I’ve also pondered how long a grave is considered protected and sacred?
It’s apparently somewhere between 0-15 generations.

ive always wondered that too
this article written by a archaeology student is a good read

she says
"Different countries and nations around the world set their own standards"
she says this too
"South Australia’s Burial and Cremations Act 2013, a burial site may be
reused once an internment right expires."

they have been excavating at Sutton Hoo since 1939, so guess it
is up to each country, area to determine how long to dig

TOMB, n. The House of Indifference. Tombs are now by common consent invested with a certain sanctity, but when they have been long tenanted it is considered no sin to break them open and rifle them, the famous Egyptologist, Dr. Huggyns, explaining that a tomb may be innocently "glened" as soon as its occupant is done "smellynge," the soul being then all exhaled. This reasonable view is now generally accepted by archaeologists, whereby the noble science of Curiosity has been greatly dignified.

And that my friends is why I'll be cremated, I'm not about being dug up and put on display like some circus act..

In my opinion no grave should be desecrated, no matter who or when they were buried.. With the exception of soldiers being exhumed and returned home.

I agree and I will add to that. No soldier should be buried on foreign soil.

Some of those people dug up and robbed of their belongings may well have been soldiers or wives/family of soldiers.

Just seems like outright greediness.

Is the desire for knowledge sufficient excuse for digging up a grave...apparently so.
