Hey Ivan,

WTG on your article. When I was your age, and someone found a wreck like that, people would find it ludicrous that the State would deny someone access and that the State would claim it. We fought long and hard against socialism and communism and believed that the individual was supreme and the State answered to us. How far have we descended where just about anything you do now is controlled by the State.

I also remember that the telephone book's Government Section was about one page long and included City, County, State and Federal. To describe something as a "Federal Case" was to describe a very big case that would only be reserved for the most heinous crimes against society. Now, just about every thing is a federal case! You just about can't go through the day without breaking some law or putting yourself in a situation where the Government has control over you.

It is a crying shame that the individual means nothing in today's society. Keep fighting Ivan, Mel Fisher did and eventually won.

Ivan very informative article. I remember you talking about it in a chat room a while back. Too bad they don't follow up with you on it.

yep mel won alright and god bless him cuz he "earned" it thru years of work -- the death of his son --the long and costly legal battle ----but when mel finally won --- it left a "bad taste" in the state of florida's mouth -- so after he won the feds and state govts came up with the "shipwreck act" to cut off access to the proper federal MARITIME salvage courts that should have heard the salvagefolks claims & appeals--- instead they gave "control" over the shipwrecks and their salvage to the states to handle --- in effect they cooked the "books" changing the laws so that on one else could ever use mel fishers methods to win against them again in court --any of GOVT types doesn't like to lose to "joe little man" in court (they like a "rigged game")-- they like to run the show (your life) from birth till death -- milking the working slob of his money and living off his sweat and blood -- look I'm no fool I know that the "powers that be are the powers that be" and that they will run things to suit themselves for the most part --ok so be it -- just like the "days of old" the "king" still gets his 20% cut same as always--- just like when spain ran the treasure fleet -- but at the very least they should let the salvage folks go towork and make everyone some money -- cuz heck treasure hunters have to eat too.
