    real or fake.

sorry i just had to comment on this. i think that being told you cant question something is dumb, not many posts on here are questioned, and the ones that are, have a reason for it. i just think its kinda communist not to be able to question someones honesty. sorry if this offends someone, but being told i cant burns me up.

    Re: real or fake.

The problem is many who question don't really have the experience to know. As many times as I have seen people post fake stuff and be called out, I have probably heard from people, or seen posts suggesting a find was fake and I totally disagreed with that opinion. So with that said I can understand why the forum has the policy it does... where I would personally prefer it be had out in a thread and the people can decide for themselves. (But it's not my forum)

I guess it's similar to the argument for being against the death penalty... which is it's better to not execute any to avoid killing one person who is innocent.

I think for the most part people are honest. There will always be those few who will lie and embellish to make themselves look and feel better. Sucks to be them.

We deal with this a lot on a fishing forum with fish weights and sizes and stuff. You pretty much learn to congratulate anyone for their find or catch, but wether they have the integrity to be honest is all on them. You only lie to yourself when you make a fake post because at the end of the day, nobody will hardly remember a week from then anything about the post itself.

    Re: real or fake.

If someone posts something fake there will most definitely be people on here that will recognize it as such. At that moment the person will have forever ruined their credibility to the ones who recognize it as being fake. There are many experienced, knowledgeable, people on here; so is it really worth ruining your credibility just to make yourself look good to a few less knowledgeable folks? Allowing every person on here the liberty to question something as fake will only create drama, and there is plenty of that elsewhere. So leave the fakers be, ignore them and consider the source.

If this forum were for selling finds and the post was about selling this new find, then I would agree that questioning may be proper. That's not really the case though. This rule seems to be for the forum posts announcing finds which is strictly for pleasure purposes. It really doesn't matter whether a find is real or not, whether known or not. I am certain the forum mods just want everyone's experience here to be friendly and about having fun enjoying our sport and not about accusations and drama which would spoil the atmosphere.

    My two cents.

Most of the time...(I said most of the time)......You can tell a real posting from fake. Usually it is a "newbie" trying to either fit in, or look like a "hero". "Liar...Liar....Pants on fire!" The mods should take this into consideration as they can also tell real from fake postings. My feelings is they, (the poster), get what they deserve from the members here with outlandish claims of "treasure found".

I hate to argue with ya, but in the end it DOES matter if a find is real or not, for one thing, think about it, while you are reading about those finds, you are learning about who found it and how, you get to learn if what you found is worth hanging onto, you find yourself wondering who had used that object in the past, or what kind of people they might have been! And yes it matters because people like to hear the truth, I myself have no qualms on asking for more pics, or whether an object is real, cause I get to learn more! In the end, it's fun to find all kinds of stuff, it's just some of us here are tired of the people who come in bragging about this awesome find, and how much it cost, and come to find out it was all just a story! Just my 2 cents worth! Red

    Re: real or fake.

    Hi,

I think everyone should have the right to say what they like. It is some what constitutional but on the same note this is private property and the owner has the right to allow what they want to allow. I also feel it should not matter what people say about the finds. The finder or poster knows whats genuine and if someone is wrong about an ID someone will surly correct them. Over all I've never agreed with the policy but its not my decision.

    Best of luck,
Keep @ it and HH !!

    Sticks and Stones,
This reminds me of the Racing Forum I go on a lot.
Normally the ones that are not real truthful
    Are found out pretty Quickly
And End up with no one caring to read their posts
Its the people that argue with or about them
    That keep them alive
And some do stuff just to see if anyone is paying ATTENTION

I must disagree with that disagreement. This is similar to the Death Penalty issue. Sure you're gonna get rid of a lot of bad guys but eventually and very likely, someone innocent is going to pay. Same goes here. The best policy is to make your own judgement about the truth or veracity of a post and if you believe someone is selling wolf cookies then you know next time not to read their posts. Thus the judgement will be rendered by low view count posts and the "flames" won't be burning the innocent.
