Bob, If you don't help support Tnet, why should you be able to place free advertisements?:dontknow: I've been a charter member for a long time and never placed an ad. Actually I never sell anything.

Only letting charter members post classified ads is pathetic and elitist.
Shame on you. :BangHead:

Robert

By doing it this way bad deals and ripoffs are all but nonexistant now.... If you want to sell something you can join for just a month for $5.00 or $20.00 for a year, it is a bennifit of being a charter member......

I was once a Charter member and it does have it's perks . I'd still be one now except for the fact that I just can't afford it being unemployed for longer than I want to remember . It's to bad that regular forum members could do something to donate their time to become a Charter memeber . Hopefully I'll find a job this year or find enough goodies to become one again . Yup, that's one of many rules that are dictated to us, & make us just feel like stupid slaves. I'm probably leaving this forum forever. The largest detecting forum on the internet will let you post all the ads you want. I can't tell you their name, but do a search for metal detecting forum. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who senses something is wrong. Post several hundred helpful posts & then be treated like you are a big problem, & deserve no rights or privileges. What some fail to realize is that without the forum members bragging up a new detector to stimulate sales, the dealers might fail & then the site goes out of business with no dealer ads. Best wishes Robert! George (MN)

Then my question for you is why are you bothering adding your opinions about becoming a Charter Member if your not selling anything ? Being a Charter Member doesn't add to credence to anything or any answer you post . I think your way off base about saying that " If you don't support TreasureNet , why should you be able to place free advertisements ? " Cause I bet there are more non-charter members than there are Charter . And these non-Charter members support TreasureNet or then this would be a "private forum" you have to pay to belong too . Being a Charter Member doesn't make you "bullet proof" nor does it guarantee your honesty in any way . If it did it would be clearly posted that Charter Members advice it 100% correct and there sales are 100% trusted and guaranteed . All it does is give you and others the right to post your items for sale , even if you don't sell anything you have a privilege by being a Charter Member other non-Charter Members don't .
The way I see it is that there should be a spot where non-Charter members can post items for sale because without us the Sponsors of TreasureNet sales would drop considerably. And then maybe they'd consider an open discussion with the owner(s) and Moderators to make this happen and a privilege for all and not only the one's whom can afford it . It seems some of never had hard times when $5 to $20 can be the difference between if you get feed your kid's .
I was a Charter Member until I lost ALL my income and couldn't justify paying something I couldn't afford or make the choice where $5 to $20 could be better used for things my family needs . That amount doesn't seem to large to you because your lifestyle is comfortable . You and others make it sound like we are to cheap to pay so we loos the right to sell anything . You and your opinion to Bob (and others that read it) is flawed and only makes sense only because you can afford it . Walk a mile in my shoes and you'll change that opinion . IMHO , Woodstock

Woodstock Sandman has ever right to post here.

Our rules are you need to be charter member to sell. You don't want to be a charter member and don't want to sell anything then don't.

TreasureNet is a private business with public access. We have hundreds of new members a week that are signing up, our site traffic has surpassed what is was before site was sold...TreasureNet is the largest treasure website on the net.

Our rules and TOS are posted and easy to read.....

Attacks on TN also violates our rules.

You are no slave here, your presence is completely voluntary. AND your presence is also voluntary to all the people here who support your presence - the unpaid moderators, the unpaid bandwidth taken up by this forum, and the levity they allow you here - as a guest. Oh, yes, you're a member with a name here, and you pay zero to be here, zero for support here, and zero for the expertise you learn here.

I personally will likely never post anything for sale, but I absolutely appreciate being allowed to be here, and to glean all the knowledge I gain by reading all these posts.

It is worth by far more than a charter membership just to have the chance to learn from others - though I can certainly do that already at zero cost to myself.

But I chipped in, and I'm happy to have done so.

Well, I guess it's time to throw my two meows in to this ring...... not that anyone would really care....... but........
For what it's worth.........

IF YOU WANT TO PROMOTE HERE, GET A CHARTER MEMBERSHIP BEFORE YOU PUT ANY OUTSIDE LINKS ON YOUR PROFILE.

Not too many ppl on this planet is going to give you something for free. The owners of this site, (inho), have costs and overhead to meet and maintain, like anyone else. They graciously include an extra "perk" with the charter membership, that we may all can network and trade with one another.

I had seen some other charter members had links to their blogs and on-line stores or businesses here in the past. I check them out, think they are pretty cool. Before I even begin to think I may self-promote here, I inquired of one of the mods if this type thing is acceptable. Basically, what I took from my convo with the mod, was, DON'T ABUSE THE PRIVILAGE! They don't want to have to police a run amok spam site, which is more than understandable, no one wants to baby-sit these forums. If folks can and will act adult, not abuse the privilege promoting, be tasteful and courteous, then no one should have a problem here. It's good that ppl that know one another can do trade and business together. In my 16 years of caseworking and medical billing for 53 hospitals in 12 different states, you can bet my rolodex was full of everyone, from lenders to the soup-kitchens, in every town we had a hospital in, and the surrounding areas. It's good to know good people!

To sit and wah wah wah because you can or can't something........ well........ good luck with that.
I for one am very grateful and appreciate being able to interact in such a way on my favorite forum site. Ya'll few (that may not want to play nice) don't screw it up for the rest of us! Thank you and good luck all.

Well, I see both sides of this and have a suggestion. Since TH said it keeps the sales honest, may I suggest letting all members that have been in good standing for over a year be allowed to sell here. Letting all members sell, with this stipulation, would increase traffic on sales.
I would tend to believe that advertisers foot the bill. If not set an ad price of maybe $5 per ad under the above restriction. Just a thought, Frank...

Sorry Frankn, appreciate the effort but the ability to sell is a feature of charter membership, its not going to change.

Example, you subscribe to a newspaper, you pay for it to read it every day of your subscription, yet if you want to place an ad to sell an article your still required to pay to run the ad and they are heavily supported by ad sales same for magazines.

People can always sell on Craig's list, but your not going to reach the market you do selling here ..

Someone wants to sell a detector, they could just tack on $20 to the sell price or split it between 2 sales...

All true TH, but the newspapers are dying because the AD money is based on circulation and that is what pays the bills. Compare the charter income and Ad income and you will see what I mean. Frank... it's just Business 101, my minor.

Well, the way I look at it is I am one of the ones that answers rather than asks questions and I have only sold some old treasure mags here for my cost to help another TH. I have been hunting all over the US since the 70's and I am 75 so I want to spread my knowledge around in the short time that I have left. Frank...

by limiting selling to charter members * it stops the "hit and run" fake seller rip off artist * that often are such a bane to site like this * plus if you want to "sell" and make money off the site , its only fair that you support it fiscally as a "charter member" --remember --there no 'free lunch" as they say -- I do not sell things here, myself.

View attachment 816035 But then, it's just how you look at it if you see what I mean. OVER

Newspapers dying because of internet which took a large percentage of their readers.

TN is growing, we sign up about a hundred new members every day during the week more on weekends. We are not dying......

The ability to sell is simply a feature of charter membership, since being made a charter membership feature bad deals have drop to almost 0.

If it was changed to 1 year, members 9-10 months would argue they should be allowed as they been here almost a year.

It is working great now....

I support it myself, I ran charter membership drives here for several years, I have gifted at least a dozen over the years myself... I became a CM about the 3rd week here....
