Victorio Peak Update

I live in southern New Mexico and my former neighbor (I have since moved) is an Archeologist and worked for the company that monitored the digging of Victorio Peak by the Noss Partnership in the 1980's. By the terms of the contract with the U.S. Govt a licensed Archeologist had to be on site the entire time they were working. They had a big vaccum cleaner that sucked all the dirt out of the collapsed area.

They did find a few small tools that dated to the time of Doc Noss and some writings on the cave walls. I asked him if the treasure was still there and he replied that whatever was there is long gone as the amount of Heavy Equipment work was extreme. The Noss Partnership ran out of money and the digging had to stop before they a) reached the bottom where the cave is and b) the time alloted in the contract to dig had been used up. If they had raised more funds the answer to the treasure may have been finally answered.

He has a permit that allows him to explore without an escort on the Missle Range. The Govt doesn't want to find human remains found in the middle of a strategic weapons construction project so they have him check the sites out. He has travelled up & down the Missle Range for years.

Another friend was involved in the capture of Big Horn Sheep in the San Andreas Mountains. They had scabies and all were captured and treated to avoid extinction there. He said the same thing to me about the amount ofHeavy Equipment usage all around Victorio peak. Some of the locals believe President Kennedy, who visited WSMR in the early 60's may have taken it then and that is possibly why he was killed.

Anyway, just wanted to share some of what the locals have seen and heard.

Of course, I don't know which archaeologist he was talking about---because we kept getting new ones all the time, whose main assignment was to SPY on our activities, and then call HQ every night--using OUR telephone setup to give his report !! More than once, I caught an 'arky' hiding behind a boulder, listening to what we were saying, and then heard her call in and report it ! One of the 'arkys' had the audacity to tell us that he was there to " SHUT US DOWN" ! They knew there had been a famous Indian battle in the area but had no idea exactly where it took place--until we told them----which was a BIG mistake, because those areas IMMEDIATELY became " off-limits" to us ! ( we couldn't even WALK across them ! ) They prevented our working at one of our Prime targets, because they declared it ( without justification) as an " archaeological zone" !! We now have the PROOF that this was the exact spot where tons of gold were illegally removed, before we got there ! Do you think that was merely a coincidence ??

What a fantastic story. I can't wait for the movie. I Google White Sands history and on the website there is NO MENTION of any of this...even the mention of Victorio Peak. But there is interesting anecdotal information from ex-military guys, including this...
Sprint missile and the microwave oven.
To control the Sprint missile computer, the ground transmission had to be thru the exhaust plume, as it was traveling away from the site.
This required a new type of transmission and Amana got the contract to develop it. While testing the radar transmission signals, a maintenance worker walked in front of the large radar antenna on top of the main building, and was fried to a crisp. It was not too long afterwards that Amana started selling their new "Radar Range" microwave oven.

Sorry, but I think that someone goes out to check, (archie, or whomever) reports back to the government, and then the government steals anything valuable that is in the area before the true owners - like the Noss' family - can get it. Technically, by law, the Noss family still owns those
rights - the government cannot take away a right when they do not allow them to do their prospecting. That's the very reason why the Noss relatives were finally, after all those years (and the government got out all the goods, and left a few trinkets), let in to Victorio Peak - but the government knew they would not find anything. Much, much MUCH, heavy equipment workings were done - by the government - long before they allowed the Noss relatives back onto Victorio Peak. The darned place looked like a highway of government vehicles.

You should see what the government does when you drive right up there (we did that back about 20+ years ago). They really get hyper!!

Your Story: I was assigned by IBM to work on the Air Force Athena contract at WSMR starting in January of 1966; it was my very first job after college. I found a little house in Las Cruces and began life on my own.

From my day of arrival to my departure in February 1967, I was always in awe of the beauty of the place. People were friendly, but there was work to be done and the charter of WSMR was very much the center of our daily work. Somehow the stunning brilliance of the desert and the Organ Mountains made any difficulties easier to bear. I have never known anybody who worked in a more magnificent setting: when my city friends said "How can you live in such a god-forsaken place?" I just said "You should be so lucky".

One amusing story stemmed from our work studying the response of radars to the commands from the computers, so that we could improve the tracking of missiles. One very large radar was named RAMPART, and we had a series of commands programmed to transmit to it, and were going to study its reponse. But we accidentally struck a resonant frequence of the radar structure, and after a few seconds the operators telephoned us "You're about to shake the whole radar clear off its mounts!" This was a very large structure! We stopped in time, fortunately; future tests were less exciting but more fruitful. WSMR was a great place to work.

Your Story: I was stationed with 1st SOW from Hurlburt Field, FL, as an Electronic Warfare Specialist and participated in the Iran Hostage Rescue Attempt in April 1980. After the mission failure, we began preparing for a second attempt. Our maintenance crews based out of WSMR during a joint exercise in the late summer of 1980. We stayed in some Quonset huts in a remote area of the range where war games were usually played. I did a lot of exploring during that time, including hiking into nearby mountains, where I found an old mine, which I think was a gold mine, inside the hollowed-out peak of a mountain. I saw lots of iron pyrite, quartz, iron and copper ore chunks all around the mine, and some old mining equipment. I sat for hours on top of that peak and watched a family of hawks playing in the updrafts and occasionally dropping down to the desert floor to catch a rabbit and eat it. I watched small rain clouds drift through the valley below and occasionally deliver a short burst of rain, with lightning below the small area under the cloud. I learned to carry plenty of water on my hikes.

Did we know that Kennedy visited WS the year he died. Here is an excerpt from another one-striper...

Another detail which proves poignant with hindsight, was setting up a parachute canopy, desks, typewriters, binoculars, etc. for the press corps that visited White Sands on June 5, 1963. They came with President John F. Kennedy to witness a number of missile firings that day. After seeing the firing of a Talos Missile, the President came over to the group of us under the canopy and received a tumultuous welcome. I didn’t receive a hand shake because of the size of the gathering but I did have my hand “brushed” by the man who would be struck down by an assassin in little over five months.

I think aliens came, took the treasure and carried it back to Mexico with them. Gracias, gringos. I would rather blame them than Lyndon. He was my momma's hero.. Kennedy died primarily because of the Bay of Pigs. E. Howard Hunt(CIA at the time) was one of the shooters. He was on the grassy knoll. At least that is what he told his son on his death bed. His widow says not true. It's in books and probably online. Friend married a Col. in the CIA. I asked her to ask him. He said Hunt did it. Hunt was still alive at the time. Quien sabe?
