Is "Injun" offensive to you?

Are you offended, or do you think it's offensive to call the Indian Head Penny an "Injun"

I've recently found out I'm less than 1% Native American. So I have a new found perspective on this.

Is it offensive? Yeah probably. Am I offended? No.

Being 1/2 Indian and 1/2 Japanese people call me both it's more of the best intentions of how you phrase it in content .
And I'm sure that somethings are best described by using the word injun
Like achient injun artifacts found along the trail of tears
there by they are describing the history timeline of such finds
So it's Subjective to the Context of how you use it

If I were Native American, I wouldn't want to be called Indian, since I wouldn't be from India, right?

How does it feel to be so mentally and emotionally weak
that words hurt you? Asking for everybody else that is afraid to.

With all due respect, I'm not sure you thought this question through before
you posted it

Think about this: Go find the person you love the most, look them in the eye and
tell them you don't like them any more, and never want to see them again.

Just the thought of what their face would look like causes you emotional
pain, doesn't it, not to mention the mental and emotional pain you would
feel as a result of saying it.

Do you still think that words can't cause mental and emotional pain?

I'm honestly not trying to be insulting...just making a point.

Also, you might want to read the site rules..

I too am an American. A white male American. I was born here, my parents were both born here as well as my grandparents. I am 1\2 Irish and 1\2 Italian. I am first and foremost American. It is fine to be proud of our heritage and our ancestors, but we should first identity ourselves as Americans. IMHO. Heck, all our ancestors came from across the water at some point (except the Native Americans) who were already here and were the True First Americans. I sometimes find myself being offended by some that are so easily offended. Lol We should be more like the Native American Cherokee chief in the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Endeavor to Persevere". That was a great line.

To the OP's initial question=no! What bothers me is PC. Political Correctness is a form of censorship I can't stumble around. By being PC, I can't even make a post where I use my nickname like some do here. It would be oppressing to sign one of my posts when it would turn out online as being: xxxx

Personally, I don't care what you call me as long as it's not "late for the BBQ"

I'm no fan of "Ms." for a woman, "Sic or Sick" meaning anything but Gross or Ill, "Woke" meaning Politically Correct & Converted by a
Liberal or for that matter all the new politically correct words people are Dreaming up, to replace the english language because they hate America so much.
Like said above I Don't think words by themselves can hurt. Yes using them in sentence to attack
someone may, But imo Injun is a Fun way to say indian head Penny in less Space .
I've used it myself & Make no apologies. the Penny didn't report it and it's not one of the 7 Deadly Words that are guaranteed
to meke litte old ladies ears to bleed , Face to Melt

giphy.gif

& send you straight to Hell with a Devil and Pitchfork in your face to be spanked by him for being bad by big daddy Satan :laughing7:

So If I see it, One thing I Can promise, No reaction.
I probably won't even Notice I saw it.

Beats tying out Native American Head Penny. Especially when it's really an Injun

F.Y.I. it's a 30 Day ban for making someones Face Melt Off :skullflag:

I have been alive too long,...... ask anyone that knows me well.

I counted among my friends Russell Means and Dennis Banks.
(may both rest in peace)

russell and dennis.jpg

If those names seem familiar it may be from 1973, the second Wounded Knee.

I remember Russell answering the question as to which is correct,.......

"American Indian" or "Native American"

native russell-means-622816.jpg

As to the question posed by the OP,....... Yes, it's an offensive term.

But much can be said for the "intent" when using the term.

change of worlds.jpg

"The most painful thing in my life,...... is having a good memory"

I've said my piece, I won't address this again.

imo everyone is an "American", "Visitor from another Country" or "illegal Alien"

I Personally Don't Pigeon hole people by their Ancestors ,
Unless there is a Personal Brag or Complaint Fest going on.

Seriously What does it Matter where our ancestors came from ?

again I Have no problem with Injun. and If an Indian were to scalp me in another Life.
I Don't think the Lighthearted, Injun would have applied,

I would have Used more Colorful Description I'm Sure

Political Correctness= to one's not having the mentality to think for themselves, therefore doing as others say or suggest, such as:: "If you don't vote for Barack Obama, you are a Racist". Remember that one? I'm proud to say that I don't have the first politically correct bone in my body. No sireee, No way, No how.:laughing7:

I've often pondered about this very same issue, and what I've come down to is this:

Being an American has little to do with race, color, creed or even what
country you were born in.

Being an American is much more of a "common spirit" among the
people. An American believes and respects that a person has a God
given right to determine the course of their own lives, and in the manner of
their own choosing. An American believes that Liberty (individual liberty)
and Freedom are worth fighting for, and when America is threatened,
the American people come together..regardless of race, creed or color.

Being an American is about what's in your heart.

For over a hundred years, Miami University teams were called the Miami Redskins; that is, until the Politically Correct bunch of wimps got their 'panties in a wad' and insisted the name be changed. The school gave in and now the Redskins have the wimpish name, the Redhawks. The name 'Miami' paid tribute to the original inhabitants of the region, the Miami tribe of American Indians in the Ohio River valley area.
Don......
