I was heading for the cashier in a convenience store in Midland, Michigan, early in 1983. The magazine rack faced me as I was in line to pay. I saw a copy of W&E Treasures in the rack and it changed my life.

I'd always had a treasure kind of dream. When my mother married my stepfather, we were "remodeling/rebuilding" - loved that house, it burnt down, but before that, the city dumps were open to scavenging = I don't think they are now for a long time back. But I found incredible things there - mostly focused on stamp collecting at the time - accumulated over 50,000 stamps. It was an incredible place - those caches of treasure, basically the disposed estates from our elderly folks who passed in the late 50's and early 60's.

And then in 1959 or 60 I was kicking dirt clods on the school yard and kicked up a Spanish Reale. The coin, I gave to my stepfather, and when when he passed, he gave it back to me. So then, I passed it to my son. He lost it, but no big deal for me though I wished that had not happened.

I guess that's why metal detecting has always been so appealing - sometimes you find things you treasure - and then you await your next adventure.

I'll hunt till I drop - it's Deep :)

Thanks to Western & Eastern Treasures, I'm the happy fellow I am today - there's another delight coming :)
