Should I convert it?

Hi all,
I bought this pin from someone who said it came from an estate of an elderly lady in a nearby town. My plan is to convert it into a barrette, but wanted to make sure that I was not destroying the value of something that might be better off left as is.
Any ideas.
Thanks.

Pickaback, leave the pin on and hot glue a barrette bottom underneath it. No damage no problem. Hot glue comes off easily and wont affect value.
