Hello everyone,
Yesterday I dug a Virginia & Tennessee baggage tag at an early 1800's site. According to Wikipedia, the V&T was completed in 1856. "During the Civil War, the railroad served as key supply, food and troop movement route for the Confederate States Army, particularly from the capital at Richmond to the interior at Chattanooga, Tennessee. Among the vital transportation services provided by the V&T was to move raw materials from the copper mines near Cleveland, Tennessee, the lead mines near Bristol, the salt works at Saltville, Virginia and saltpeter caves throughout the region."
I was just wondering if anyone could hazard a guess as to what this tag might be worth in this dug condition. Thanks so much! Jack.
