This is a set of six 1970 Maine Sesquicentennial medals. Three are .999 silver.

I've seen the largest and the smallest silver individually on ebay, and I've seen the smaller bronze one, too. I've seen some of these in as a set of two. What I cannot find is this set of six.

My father-in-law bought them. He was at an antique market, early in the morning in the spring a few years ago. It was truly biting cold. All the outdoor dealers were in their cars, engines on, windows rolled up. He saw the box, which was marked twenty five dollars. He tapped on the window and yelled "would you take eight?" through it. The guy nodded, rolled down the window half an inch and took the cash.

The three silver medals weigh just about 400 grams together. That's almost one pound of pure silver - for eight bucks! He had a knack for finding things like this. He had never seen these medals before, didn't examine them, but he knew they were worth more than that.

I've been looking for two days to put a value on this set.

I'm hoping someone could them?

Thanks!

Does the product say .999 silver?
Similar products with this same copyright name are made of aluminum.
Personally, I can't see those three silver colored commemoratives weighing anywhere near one pound.
PS: On the other hand......Maine 1970 Sesquicentennial .999 Fine Silver Medal From The Metal Arts Co.76mm | eBay

Don......

I'm more than a little offended that my statement was brought into question.

399 grams is 0.879644 pounds.

I would call 0.879644 pound almost one pound.

Wouldn't you?
