Double barrel shotgun black powder. I posted this earlier and was told to look under barrel for marking. I found a number 18.0 number and a couple other markings. One looks like a circle with letters in it ,see pictures. Any help will be appreciated.

"ELG" is a common Belgian proof house mark. Over in Europe firearms are still proof tested today. They load the gun with an overcharge and fire it, the gun is now proven to accept a normal charge. If you put "shotgun proof marks" into google you might find both the "ELG" in an oval (with crown?), and also the maker's mark which is likely that arrow shaped mark next to the proof mark or possibly the "*LA" beneath.

The "18.0" is possibly the choke constriction for a 12 gauge in millimeters, or possibly inside barrel diameter but a true 12ga. bore is closer to 18.4 millimeters, iirc.

$125-$250?

The Belgians made a heck of a lot of guns.

Thats a heavy price; hit a euro flea market, give it some time and you will find one for about 60 bucks. no black powder openly for sale, there for it can not be used. same goes for breach loaders at a certain age, even though you can still have ammo made, governments are not exactly threatened by someone willing to spend 300 bucks for one custom round.

Sounds like it is time to travel to Europe and buy up all the rare Black Powder guns, bring them back to the States and make a fortune on them.:dontknow: I wonder if I could get a steal on some old W.W. Greener and Holland & Holland guns!!!??

It looks like you retired to the State where a lot of those folks that are on Interpol's Wanted List are hiding.:laughing7: What's up with that?:icon_scratch: Must have gotten tired of hanging out in all those Villas in Italy, Spain, the French Rivera and elsewhere, huh!!??:icon_biggrin:

You might want to have that thing checked out by a gunsmith before anybody tries to shoot it. You can check yourself to see if it is still loaded, in which case it would probably be too corroded to fire, by sticking the ram rod down and making sure it hits the breech in both barrels.

The gunsmith can't come up with the maker. I don't know why it took a month. I ll have to go someone else?
