Hi! I’m fairly sure this is not a legit 1652 Pine Tree Shilling, but would like confirmation. It weighs 6.6 grams. Pics are attached. Thanks in advance!
well I believe the outcome will be different. I do also believe this piece to be a Noe 11 as you have found .Looks to be in VF condition - If so once certified ,Awesome find ! If it is a counterfiet it sure looks to be a darn good one . I see many pick up points that I have compared to known examples & the match quite well.
I'm no expert on these but I know they were struck for many years (despite the date) and in many variations. So I'd suggest taking it to an expert on these coins or if none are available, submit it for authentication.
How the coin was obtained plays a role too. If dug, and it looks too good to have been dug, that is good. If sold to you in a parking lot in a "ppssssttt, hey buddy" transaction by a shady character", that is not good.
Definitely fake, way, way too heavy. Looks nothing like Noe 11, appears to be somewhat a copy of Noe 1, which is the most common variety copied. It is also way too thick, a large planchet pine tree shilling is almost paper thin.
