I acquired this for peanuts in a job lot of junk. Itā€™s a centenary commemorative medal for the death of Rabbi Akiva Eger (various alternative spellings) produced in Berlin in 1937.

I have seen smaller ones (60mm) with similar designs described as ā€˜bronzeā€™ on auction sites, but donā€™t know the price that was realised. Some of them went unsold. This one, as you can see, is massively larger but very light. I think it may be bronzed aluminium.

Then I came across this listing on an Israeli website (Moreshet Auctions) which seems to be identical to mine rather than just similar. Mine is in much better condition with little sign of wear. The description only says that itā€™s ā€˜metalā€™ but doesnā€™t give the size. Bids opened at $200 and it sold for $260!

Anyone seen such a medal of this size, or have any idea what would be a realistic value for it?
