Thank you, Bill. I hear that striped bass fishing is fun. We used to go to Lake Cherokee in Tennessee for stripers, but not river fishing for them.

I buy and sell a lot of reels. Some have cult-like followings and demand a premium. Poke around on eBay for starters and Google all the info that’s listed on the reels. For $5 a pop you can’t go wrong.

We just bought 20 more. I’ll have some research to do. :tongue3:

For a collector that last one (Meisselbach No. 480 Takeapart) is probably the most interesting. $40 depending on condition.

As far as "did you do OK?" Hard to say. Going fishing? The Do-Alls look pretty usable if the drags are not cracked & dried out. Are you a fisher and want to make a nice display? Or are you looking to become a collector? Or are you looking to turn a fast profit?

If you're happy you did OK.

As you know, I'm no fisherman WD. :laughing7:
But if you picked up 6 reels for $30, I'd say you did good.

I found this reel a few weeks ago in a farm field and was told by a collector in the UK that it's very rare and worth money as a collectible. :dontknow:
It was made by Reuben Heaton of Birmingham, England and dates from c 1890 to 1910.

Hope you're getting out on the water these days,
Dave

pepperj My Dad always used casting reels and I remember him putting his thumb over the line when throwing out so it would not tangle. He always made it look so easy but for me as a young boy I did better with the Mitchell 300.

WD sounds like that lake is the place to go for big fish..the striped bass come up the Hudson River every spring from the Chesapeake bay to spawn. Now due to over fishing limits are now in place where any over 28 inches have to be returned and they also have a skin disease that people can get so it’s better to wear gloves

I'd say if you are happy with your purchase, then you did ok. Those would look great in some sort of display.
