    I found this interesting piece and have no idea what it is. The center on the top seems to be of a red Kevlar looking material. what is it?

    Looks like a one way valve from inside a pump.
    I used to rebuild diesel vacuum pumps, and it looks just like that
    Same size too. There would be 2 of them inside, one placed one way, and the other placed the opposite way
    Hope that makes sense. should be a little spring inside, and the red piece made the seal depending on which way the air was going in the pump

    Recall seeing similar devices on water faucets...

    I believe you have a check-valve. Allows one-way flow of a gas or liquid through a line.
    Garrett 2500 Pro, Cobra Beach Magnet, Bullseye 140mm, and a Magnet on a stick.
