    lincoln sense

I find many older pennies like this. no biggie. but what looks odd to me is, just below the hole dropping to the bottom of the coin looks like a misprint. At first I thought it was most likely from the punch or drill used to bore the hole. I looked at it under my loop and it looks like a stamp fault. There is nothing out of the ordinary on the flip side.

hole may have been made from a Pliars Type Punch.
When they Squeezed it left the Mark.

Just a guess at this point.

WG. . . maybe the drill bit "skipped" across the coin creating that sawtooth design.

Doubt that it is a bullet hole as there is no deformation, lead is softer than the material in a cent and would have spread on impact. Also doesn't really look like a drill hole as there seems to be a square outline around it.

    Re: lincoln sense

Definately looks like a drill hole to me, sometimes when the drill is not had enough presure on it it will slop around, that is what i see on the 4 parts that are exceding the hole. I also agree that it is a possibility as someone has also suggested that the drill bit has run off when they were starting the hole and created the zig zag pattern down the coin. If you look closely you can see that the zig zag pattern heads straight from the middle of the hole.

    Just my 2 cents
