    Miners Tag?

No clue on this piece. Appears to be corroded copper. Found at a site with IH's and V nickels. Only writing is the big 80.

    Re: Miners Tag?

It's really hard to say with this one, could be a tag for almost anything! Nice find though.

    Yea...miners tag...

Found 2 so far at an 1860's mine...not quite as heavy as the one in the link.

    Nice find,

Thanks deepskyal. Kinda had a hunch that is probably what it was. Western Arkansas was once a coal mining hotspot. Just wanted to see if anyone could confirm my hunch. Didn't find it at a mine site though, which is odd. Figure miners tags needed to stay at the mine.

I noticed that to in the picture, but they are just pits. I've had this thing under the glass trying to see any other marks. Its pretty pitted so if there was any they are gone now.

I couldn't really make out if they were pitts or initials, just seen three marks that were similar in size in the same location, and first thought was initials. Would have been kinda neat if they were initials.
I agree, if there had been anything else (like initial, mine name, etc) on it, I would have really pounded some local research to try and figure out who, what, when, and why. But as it goes all I had was a tag with 80 on it and no idea what for sure it was, still don't for 100%

    Thanks to all again.
I really enjoy TNet and the folks here.
