Re: has anyone seen this
Looks to be a carriage clock handle. Could also be of a box handle, or similar.
New toys take time to learn to use: New forums takes time to learn to use! Its why people prefer their old ones.

It looks like the handle is attached to a rope or a cord. Is that correct? That would mean that it has no holes for screws and such. Correct?

Re: has anyone seen this
I may be mistaken on the number but Patent 001855 is an IMPROVEMENT IN THE MACHINE FOR MANUFACTURING BALLS OR SHOT
http://www.google.com/patents?id=L1F...ad=0_1#PPA1,M1
It may be a handle for a melting furnace that makes lead balls, being that you found it in a fort. Did you find anything else with it?
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

Wow I didnt read it either. I guess I look at the pictures too much and with nothing for size comparison... I didnt realize it was so small. It could barely fit two fingers.
