    Brass weight

    This Item rang up real nice on the detector

    Appears to be a brass weight/counter weight. What was it used for

    Could have been a counterweight for a scale.Would have had a hook in the top to hang from the scale beam.

    I think we are pretty sure it is a weight from an old scale, or at least it seems so. Monty

    What exactly is the weight in grams? There may be a matching number on it. Would be nice to see a pic of what solved it.

    2.8 oz. Don't see any markings and doubt cleaning will help (plus I like the patina).

    2.8 oz. or 79.37 grams. Isnt that an odd number for a weight in a balance weight set? I have seen 50 grams and 100 grams the norm. http://www.glass-thermometers.com/we...nce_weight.htm

    The tapered shape could indicate a stopper function.

    Don't think you can get the exact weight because part of it is missing, looks like it broke off at the top? Monty
