I decided to go on a very long 2 hour hike through Bush , ticks you name it , It is well off any trails i decided to follow a stream and I came across this , a small dam ,My question is the square hollow ,was it a Mill of sorts or a flood gate control , I am not sure ...

spring house. for keeping your perishable food, milk, cheese, eggs, and butter cold.
you'd store food inside and the cool water from the spring or creek flowing thru would cool the contents.
from the days of no electric or refrigerators.

You are correct. Mill race dam. You might find the ruins of a mill somewhere down stream.

Great thanx for the info I asked another source and it appears to be a spring house , Will keep you guys posted very soon , from research this area was used from mid to late 1700s , untill the middle 1800s , there is a old colonial road which begins at the spring house and goes up a mountain but disappears after 500 yds into heavy brush, there must be some sort of an old camp , or foundations , close by . I just went and did a lil foot work hung around a bit and had to make sure i had time to find my way back . Well worth the adventure

I have a great sense of direction, but carry a GPS to mark any interesting waypoints to insure finding my way back even years later. I write down the co-ordinates with a description of what it is that I found there, on a note pad so that I also have a hard copy.

You can then use the GPS co-ordinates on your computer to get sattelite views of the area and maybe find other things you missed or even an easier access route for the next trip in.

If the old timers had GPS there would be no lost mines to find.

Great tip GoodyGuy that is how i found the area , I used Google earth , scanning areas of intrests and noticed , strange fields deep in the woods and no homes in the area , i decided to park on a dirth road, i live in a rural area with allot of sticks , but did not notice anything that would indicate a road or anything Towrds the Fields , but noticed there was a small creek , I decided to follow it as , after about half an hour I seen a chimney to the right about , 50yds away , i looked around had taken a photo or two , but i will attach the part of the foundation by the creek , and , the remnits of a chimney , I hung around a bit Wishing I packed my detector with me . So after a few I decided to follow the stream further for about another Hour and came across the Spring House , at the right of the spring house was the beginning's of a colonial road , which is weird because by the chimney and foundation there are no signs of , one , But this is mountains terrain , so I was tried and decided to , go home for the day , i would estimate the fields where about another 40 minutes away. I just want to do a property search , But nothing is posted anywhere ... I will be back, maybe even camp out for a few days

Wow, those are some awesome places you found. I look forward to hearing about what is in the ground there. Whatever detector you pack, I hope it goes DEEP. You may want to consider taking a tent and staying a couple nights. It could take years to cover all that area! Man, that sounds awesome!!

Now's the time to do some research and see if you can find any history on the place.
I would guess early to mid 1800's by the look of things.

Check for loose stones around the fireplace opening, I have found things hidden behind mantels on old fireplaces. J

In the waterline on the 3rd picture. Is that just a branch or an iron rod?

Yeah they are all Sapplings that are growing out of the foundation

Don't think it's a sideways growing sapling, but could be a branch stuck in the waterline. Anyway, didn't know if it was something that had been used in the construction of the spring house.

they should call you Hawk Eye , You really have a keen eye for detail , I will be back there soon and update the report , I think that is just a branch , will take better photos and video shortly .
