Chunk-o-Brass w/writing
Found this in some of my Granddads stuff. Brass bar with designs and symbols on it. Measures 3"x1"x.5". Weighs 7.2 oz. Is this anything or is it just a piece of brass somebody has practiced engraving on?

Yeah, looks like someone had a 'punch' set to play around with.
Just for fun, show this to the guys over on the Treasure Signs/Markers forum. No doubt they'll find all kinds of secret codes in it.

...a treasure map?
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

its for leather workers.
brass is soft and wont mess up your tools when you use it as a background or anvil
when stamping or punching leather

Is that what it is for sure? Would punching leather with a stamp transfer through to the brass? And would they have caligraphy style letters in a leather stamp kit? Just some thoughts. The designs seem too semi-organized for just random punchs while using it as an anvil behind leather. If its for sure a leather anvil, I will most certainly give you the green check Dozer.

Re: Chunk-o-Brass w/writing
i believe it is just a chuck of brass stock...handy for leather punching...or jewelry..or repining knives...
i use wood right now..and a 25 pound square of iron...brass is best...it appears to have been used by an jeweler.

I agree that it could have been used for any of them things. Just a chunk-o-brass with writing.

Re: Chunk-o-Brass w/writing
hmm some of the marks are from a stamp, some from cutting (engraving). A brass item used as an anvil and practice piece. Mots likely from a jeweler or gunsmith.
New toys take time to learn to use: New forums takes time to learn to use! Its why people prefer their old ones.
