    Boat id plate ?

I found this on a big piece of curved metal sticking out of the sand on a beach last year . I pried it off with my trusty leatherman . A friend told me it might be off a life-boat . Any ideas ?

hmmmm to bad it wasn't made a few years earlier...could have been off the Titantic lifeboats davits.....or the Britannia also had welin davits ....which sunk in November of 1916....don't know if these davits were made by this welin company or the one in Switzerland
I go a great distance, while some are considering whether they will start today or tomorrow

Here is a quote from the welin web site:

"The Welin Company was founded by the Swedish inventor Axel Welin 1901,
and already 1912, about 4000 sets of lifeboatdavits were delivered to different
type of vessels, among them "TITANIC".

    And their web site:

    Cool find!

    Re: Boat id plate ?

Yup- that certainly appears to be from a lifeboat! I don't think it would be from a lifeboat davit, but rather from the lifeboat itself.

Fascinating find! It sort of makes you wonder what happened to that lifeboat- was it from a ship sunk during WW1 or WW2? Very interesting!

Maybe some further research could fill in some more of the mystery...
