dug today at a house, Only thing I can think it looks like is a part of of a gun??

I agree....."no gun"....."definately a window casement lock". Its even the kind thats lockable, nice.

Yup! Icebox latch. When I was a kid I rode with the local iceman and helped deliver ice. It was a horse drawn wagon in Baltimore in the late 50's. I remember a lot of those old icebox latches. Most were brass but some were iron and some were plated.

Looks like a lock latch. How else could you keep the kids out of the ice on those hot summer days?
