the only thing I think this COULD possibly be is a piece of a reale? It rang up on my x-70 as a solid 38, is it possible that is what it is? I fould it in a farmers field where a 1 room school used to be
Maybe someone shaved a little off before spending it.
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

How do you find Gold coins? Reply: 'By finding lots of Silver ones..'
A real man thinks about detecting every 6 seconds
or 1/16th of a 4 reale. 3.125 cents. Like a US 3 cent piece.
And why would this be at a one room school house?
Thats for you to find out...
TOO BUSY TO DETECT, YOU'RE TOO BUSY!!!

did they cut em that small? And why would this be at a one room school house?
This is the smallest I've seen, but you had to have correct change or you would more than likely pay more for what you were getting. And surely you wouldn't let a merchant cut on for you fairly.

what time frame would have this been used in Ohio? any clues?
It looks like a piece of eight and sure looks like silver but I dont think we can say with certainty without matching it. I was thinking the milled pillar type. Take the sliver and try to overlap with one of these coin types. I think I see a "00" in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd pics and it doesnt seem to match up but I may be seeing things To save us some time, have it tested for silver. If its Spanish, it would have been used in the late 1700's before America minted coinage.

Is there an "00" on the coin, or am I imagining it?
Is the edge reeded?

I agree it looks like "00" to me as well...........
I would imagine all silver colonial coins could be cut. We need a coin expert to positively ID this. It almost looks like a $ sign next to the 00.
