Re: Button that stumps even me , what the heck is it
WoW .. That is a neat button! It looks like an 1800's pictorial button depicting a plow, an anvil, and a couple of blacksmiths or plow makers. Can't make out the backmark, though.
Re: Button that stumps even me , what the heck is it
It does look the figure to the right is bending over putting something on a anvil , the one in the middle looks to be an observer , and the figure to the left may be striking or taking a closer look at something something , Should i put olive oil on the reverse , to see if i can bring any detail out in the lettering , or is it best left alone , any cleaning tips ? then i will post a clear reverse photo so we can identify this fantastic button , But then again to the left it looks like a plow , all I can say the area has had both English, colonial , and French activity
Thank you
Re: Button that stumps even me , what the heck is it
To clean, I find Scrubbing Bubbles seems to work pretty well, as does some warm peroxide. .. either, followed by a dab of olive oil or mineral oil. (do not submerge in the oil, but rather wipe just a tiny bit over the surface). I am sure others will come forth with their cleaning methods as well, but this is what works for me. I try to shy away from lemon juice unless I make real sure that you neutralize the acid afterward.

Re: Button that stumps even me , what the heck is it
No idea what it is, although almost looks like plow handles on the left side. It is not colonial by any means, most likely a 1840's or later button.
Also, looks like it did get cleaned already and just needs some touching up on the cleaning.
