    U.S. Maritime Service Ring

I do not remember if I had posted this before. Found it near an old creek or down here what is known as a Bayou swimming hole. Sterling, U.S. Maritime Service ring. Predated the Merchant Marine service..Quite large and heavy. Can anyone tell me the rarity factor on something like this?

    Re: U.S. Maritime Service Ring

--- in 1936 the US merchant marine act was put into place --creating the "modern" form of civilan merchant mariners that be come in effect ( with ranks and rating to be equal to that of the coast guard)-- basically treated as "part of the miltary" during war time but without the benefits of "offical" military staus --a sort of forced "auxiliary"--- the us martime service was set up in 1938 when FDR saw the that war would be coming soon and that shipping would be vital to winning it -- the US Martime Service --was the trainiing division of the War Shipping Administration -- during WW2 -- it was what the merchant marine was called during war time --it rare and worth while item you found --could be a officers ring --congrats

ps -- my family were all merchant seaman --I was the last of the line --1980 to 2007 medically force retired due to illness -- served in both gulf wars myself.,awarded the --
United States Merchant Marine expeditionary award --(twice one for each time served)
