Could be part of a fuse "50A" for 50 amps

Re: Brass what's it......... Maybe electrical?

Looking at the pic with the letters on it leads me to think it says "L.M. CO." on the top side and "50 A-N" at the bottom portion.

Back in the 19 teens a company called Langson Manufacturing Co. started up and made all sort of stuff it seems. They also refer to themselves as LMCO...

Nothing yet on the item you have, but it could be something of theirs. They also had some military applications too from what I can see.

unsure of age, it looks like a fuse assembly from a older high voltage power supply...possibly lockheed martin

This is what I was looking at. The center part is usually cardboard.

Time Delay Fuse, Style HVAC, Type Current Limiting, HAC-R, 50 Amp Rating, Volts 250 VAC, Dia 13/16 In, Length 3 In, Blade Design Ferrule -this was the description, the dimensions might help, but they come in many sizes.

Second thought it does look like it on the bottom. I never busted one open.

    Ask and ye shall receive!

Since there are a LOT of items found that folks label as a fuse (me included at times) I thought this dissection would be a good thing to do.

I asked one of my techs to get a a 50 amp slow blow about the length of what was in the picture. He brought back several examples of fuses so we could make a comparison of them all to the object originally found. Below are what we came up with.

Sorry for the crappy pics (I usually do MUCH better), but an Iphone was all I had to work with.

Re: Brass what's it......... Maybe electrical?

Crap, I hit send instead of preview... :P

I talked with 2 of our electricians (one is an EE the other is our on site master) out here and they both think that the original find it not a fuse for a couple of reasons:

    1. The hole in the bottom could assist in an arcing event prior to the fuse blowing. They have seen landing dimples before, but never a hole.

    2. The long run of brass going up to the wire is something they have never seen and the stranded wire would not be used for a fuse due to variables in resistance over time. They stated that solid metal would need to be used for an application such as that.

BUT, they both concurred that ANYTHING is possible with old stuff so the final conclusion here, it could be, but not likely.

I'm curious - can you move the wire by pulling on the end of it? (I'm thinking like pulling on a choke cable).

I agree but I cant believe there are no hits on this combination.
I doubt it but could it be 750 A-N?
