I think its a Tung-chi 1862-1874. I use this replica chart for quick reference.
As I get old I dont remember all this stuff. The other side has the city mint mark.

Are they worth anything? I thought it was play money cause it looks fake. very thin and looks like copper or brass.

I think its authentic but of little monetary value. Its a cool find.

    mint marks page http://www.sportstune.com/chinese/coins/mintmarks.html

I think its The Board of Revenue mint mark from Peking.

The mint mark may be Chengtu Szechuan. If not its one of the Peking mints. Im not an expert for sure.

I hate to tell you but I beleive your assumtion is correct. These coins have been mass reproduced, for decoration,id cards, good luck charms etc. etc..Yours shows the characteristic sharp details and they are narrower as well.

It could be a replica but it not obvious IMO. It does appear to be a poor casting with no wear.. Hard to say.

Heres a real one that I have and its kinda thin.

Maybe someone can tell by the markings but there are many variations.
Mine turned out to have a rare Lung marking.

I am not talking about the thickness of the coin guys,I am referring to the CHARACTERS.I have dug hundreds of cash coins, and am quite fascinated with them.I may be wrong but I am confident I am not.

I agree the characters look kinda crisp with no wear. If thats what you are referring to.
The T'ung-Chih Tung Pao characters themselves do not look too far off. Maybe the Tung.

I cant say for sure but thanks for your opinion.
Either way it has very little value unless its one of the rare variations.

Still a neat find.As I said they are often reproed for use on I.D. cards as above,so the characters actually do represent.
