I went out to many sites today. One was an old settlement in a small town in Wi. I got a 38-42 on the VDI on myMinelab X-terra 705. It came up like a dime/ quarter. This piece is the size of a quarter. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Fishtanks
Well I did a little research and it looks to be a spanish 2 reale
I removed my post. At first glance it appears to be a replica or counterfeit Potosi 2 Reale 1732 but maybe Im wrong. I hope its real. Im not too good with the South American mints. Try posting in the Cobs Forum. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/board,332.0.html
Is it silver? If its real, its a great find.
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.
Yeah the fakes jump out at ya once you seen enough legit cobs online and handled them in person. But heck, you got the high seeing it in the dirt and that is half the fun. We never dig fake coins or relics around here and I'm not sure if it's because we just hunt older sites, or they weren't as popular. I think it's probably a combination of both.

Some of the Potosi cobs are of such poor quality, that it can be hard at times to tell from a pic.
I think the reason we find so many fakes here is the tourists. They are sold on the beach here in Florida and the tourists take them home and lose them. Kids play with them. Many are lost right on the beach.
