#1 of 11 OLD LOT British Empire Era? Insignia Regalia Medals (Eagle badge?)

Here begins the I don't have a clue pins and medals from a box purchased decades ago from a woman in Egypt who would be 120+ now...

Approx. 2" H; cap badge? Nice clean white metal. Bird / eagle wearing a crown, perched atop what appears to be a shield. Flat area looks as though it might have been meant for a monogram? Rear of shield has a few scratch marks that appear intentionally done--as if to ID. No apparent marks. Seems to have been held in place by a 1/2" screw with square bolt. Slightly concave. Anybody?

Well, it resembles a French shako plate, but something in the back of my mind says this one is Italian... Genoa?

    That's a cool badge B'Belle
It's interesting that they were worn by Polish services whilst in exile. There are slight variations on the theme between the different services.
Unfortunately this link nowadays requires you to sign up in order to see the various badges. I'm sure it's free but the pics used to be readily visible.

    Dear Mike,

I'm glad you piped in. The stuff I've been going through had a big NZ presence as well. Is your dad's badge also Polish one? Can you tell me about this exile?

I accepted the answer given, but was unsettled by it because it didn't seem to fit in with all the other items. The NZ/Egypt stuff is gone now. I was lowballed to be certain but it was easier than going through hundreds of photographs. (Please don't ask.) I'm still trying to let go of that.

    Cheers!

Sorry B'Belle. What I know about Dad's version of the badge is what you know.
I have tried to help Dad ID a few badges of his collection and that was one of them.

Polish exiles fought in WWII, in and amongst Allied Forces , in all spheres of the War.

Yeah we underestimate the Poles in WWII. Friend o' mine met a Polish vet who didn't talk about the war but the daughter said dad had been at Monte Casino clearing mines... he had to crawl underneath a tank for cover and "metal detect" in front of each tread, then move up a bit, etc etc. and all the other mine clearers were killed by snipers.

Is that in Italy? My Dad was at Monte Casino. I hear him talk about it, and Anzio. He went back to Italy to visit. Hes in the hospital now. I hope he can pull through.

I wonder if any were Jews. Ran into an interesting Jewish militaria collectibles site last night while doing more homework on the badge.

As for this badge, I've run into a few versions now of the nearly precise thing, but for:

    A tilted crown.

A hallmark stamped on the back.

A regiment number embossed on the shield.

    Oy.
