Coral?

I found a pile of this stuff last summer just below the extreme low tide zone . There is probably 2 or 3 hundred pounds of it . It's heavy like a rock . If it is coral , why would it be in Maine ? Note : it has bleached out quite a bit since I found it from being in the sun on my porch .
