Just started reading this topic, if these E objects are an item from Eberhard maybe someone at Eberhard would know what they are?

They seem to be still in business, here are several links that may help if someone wanted to contact them?

    History of Eberhard.

Encyclopedia of Cleveland History:EBERHARD MFG. CO.

    Search site with Eberhard info.

Eberhard Manufacturing Co. in Cleveland, OH, US (United States)

    Eberhard's website.

Industrial Vehicle Hardware Manufacturer | Eberhard Manufacturing - Eberhard Manufacturing

    Eberhard's contact page.

    Contact - Eberhard Manufacturing

I know it's a shot in the dark as they may not be the manufacturer of these relics, or not have the resources to trace an item back in the history of the company or care to do so, but the E with the circle is an exact match of their logo so maybe it worth while to contact them.

    Skip
SEEK AND YEA SHALL FIND and when you do THANK GOD!!!

Just found one the other day and posted it. Did not realize the mystery of this item. Mine does have a crimp in it but it also has a hole in it.

When an item is found by so many different members, its usually solvable. Someone needs to step in and organize this thread. Create a possible dateline, different states, look for similarities in the areas where they are found. The "pry mark" or "crimp" is a clue. This sucker needs to be solved.

i too have found the mysterious "E" object. the only thing that i could come up with is that it's a knockout plug from some electrical item. possibly Emerson Electric, which started out in the late 1800's making fans and then manufacturing electric motors.
it's about the same size as the 1/2" knockout from a modern electrical box.
