    Leather sword case id?

    This sword case is about 40'' long .The makers stamp is hard to read and says : WM. H. COMPANY PHILADELPHIA
    Any idea how old it could be ? what type of sword went in it ?
    I bought it on Ebay for $9.99

    Looks like the type the Knights of Colubus and other organizations use for their ceremonial swords. Might check if you can find info on the name and town listed on it... could be the only way to know as it may have been a generic case, sold to several organizations... but I could be entirely wrong.

    Wm. H. Horstmann [& Sons], c. 1816-1947. They made a wide range of military equipment and swords, as well as fraternal regalia and swords, such as the Knights of Columbus swords that Ben mentioned. I would agree that it's very likely for a lodge sword and, judging from the condition, fairly late. You can probably find photos of similar cases for fraternal swords made by Horstmann, Lilley, Pettibone, et al. on eBay. For more information, try the Internet Sword Collectors Association :
